They hit the scene with a wild fury, but without warning, just as suddenly as they appeared they were gone....
"Regina" she had a hit in the mid80's "baby love" (please tell me I'm not the only one who remembers this girl)
"Toni Basil": choregropher /designer /one hit wonder remember "Mickey"
I used to love his music...but then it was like he never existed! Wassupwiddat?
LOL@Regina. I still have a "45" of that song, Baby Love
Toni Basil is STILL very active musically. She writes, produces, and choreographs for many current acts.
thanx Christ for the 411 (i knew you'd know)
and uh, can i get a copy of that 45 on the low low...shhhhh)
chuck has a recurring voice role in the cartoon series "king of the hill" other than that, i dont know
the foney thing about the baby love song, i heard it on the musak at work last night. how cool is that?
toni basil, loved her in rockula..so quirky. in fact i love that movie..anyone else seen that one??
never gona, never gona, give you up
rick was the man.
I love Regina; I have the 45 of "Baby Love" as well, and the album, Curiosity, which kicks ass!
I just read somewhere that he just signed a new record deal with a major label for like 4 albums. He's had a couple albums over in the UK I think that are self-released or only released overseas. Haven't heard them. I forget.
Rockula!!! OMG havent seen that in years. I love Thomas Dolby in that.
Electrtic Avenue-Eddy Grant
Carribean Queen-Billy Ocean
I LOVE Baby Love! I remember when that song came out everyone was saying how she was trying SO HARD to sound like Madonna.....in fact I think most people thought it WAS Madge at first!
Is it only me or is Clay Aiken really just Rick Astley in a younger, more religious, body?
Clay is Rick's American Cousin, I think...lol....
What ever happened the Kids Incorporated kids???? Like, Martika???
FROM THE INTERNET---there's no other information on Martika beyond this.
Eminem has sampled Martika's 'Toy Soldiers' for his 'Encore' album and it has raised the question "whatever happened to Martika"?
Martika had a number one hit in 1989 with 'Toy Soldiers'. Eminem uses it as the basis for his new song 'Like Toy Soldiers'.
Martika virtually disappeared after her second album but has emerged in the last few months as part of Oppera with partner Michael Mozart.
Oppera has recorded and released a new album titled 'Violince'. It is available via www.aria51oppera.net/
The short pop career of Martika continued after 'Toy Soldiers' when she had another hit with the cover of Carole King's 'I Feel The Earth Move'. The success continued into the 90's when Martika had more global hits 'Love … Thy Will Be Done' and 'Martika's Kitchen' (co-written by Prince).
She attempted a comeback in the late 90s with 'The Happy Song' but it went relatively unnoticed by her earlier fans.
Eminem's 'Encore' is expected to debut at number one in the USA next week.
I have one!
What about the king of synth, Howard Jones?
still touring, doing acoustic shows, writing and producing. has a new cd out.
christ is a veritable fount of trivial knowledge.
LOL Just saw HoJo here in Colorado last month. It was totally random that I knew that.
I loved him and his tramplike fashion sense so very very much. BTW, for whoever was asking about classic MTV videos, howardjones.com has a bunch of his for sale.
OK whatever happened to U2? JUST KIDDING.
whatever happened to U2--that's no joke! i've been asking that ever since bono started wearing gold lame and taking his weiner out on stage.
yeah I saw HoJo a couple years back...he had the bass player from Kajagoogoo playing with him...it was pretty cool!
EDDY GRANT!!! i remember the summer when Electric avenue came out and also other big hit song, even greater than electric avenuee;: ooooo it was called JOANNA ...
give me hope Joanna give me Hope
Some song about apartied and war and peace and all those trendy 80's topics.
I actually have JOANNA on my iPod...LOL I liked it so much better than Electric Avenue...especially after Montgomery Ward started using it (Electric Avenue) as their theme song. Eesh.
>>>>LOL Just saw HoJo here in Colorado last month.
Well, so how was he?!?!?! I saw some of his shows in the 80's with his mime and they were awesome, but I'd be really skeptical of what his shows might be like these days......
he did a sit-down, intimate acoustic show which was one of the best performances i've ever had the pleasure of seeing.
Speaking of Electric Avenue I've actually been to the REAL Electric Avenue....in Brixton, London! I believe it was the first street in London to get electricity, hence the name.
I loved HoJo! He was so totally my idol in the 80s. I've seen him about 10 times both electronic and acoustic. The last time I saw him he was touring with Human League and Culture Club. They were both better than he was. I think it may have just been an off night because every other time I've seen him he's been excellent. In the 80s when Jed (the mime) toured with him I would put his shows on par with a Peter Gabriel show almost- especially the DREAM INTO ACTION tour. When I saw him acoustic it was awesome also. One of the tours he brought his parents with him and I talked to them for a little while. They were really really nice. They signed my CD also. Heehee.
I was kinda disappointed with his PEOPLE album from a few years ago. I didn't know his brand new album was out yet, but I definitely want to hear it. The problem is that all his recent CDs have been self released and in the UK only and ordering them from his site is VERY expensive. I don't know why he doesn't just sign with a small indie label over here to make it more easy to get here.
I would LOVE to know whatever happened to this twin duo called "Bros."
any 411 on them?
gawd, I remember them. those teutonic-looking blond guys who sang...what was their hit?
I got one for you all... Strawberry Switchblade.
they actually had two hits "I owe you nothing" and "Too much love"
I admit I bought their CD cause they were twins and i thought they were cute...oh and the fact that i found the cd for 99 cents.
(love a bargain) but the music was pretty cool.
what happened to former George Michael backup turned hit duo Pepsi and Shirley?
I see I have a fellow insomniac. Alas I have no answer for your question.... Good one!
Here's a funny snippet from an advertisement for a cruise line and a partial answer to your question, J.C.:
TOTAL CRUISE COST £500. NEW for 2000! CELEBRITY CRUISE 'E' Special 80's Chart Toppers Cruise: Johnny Hates Jazz; Pepsi (of Pepsi and Shirley fame); ...
And apparently, they're each individually involved in the fashion industry...or so rumors have it.
and yes, Kipod, Christ is nothing if not trivial. Am I going to hell for saying that? LOL
wow christ, you are all knowing.....*beam, sigh, smile*
T'Pau was one of my favorite groups of the 80s. Where are they now, I beseech you?
in the P'Toilet?
seriously, i've not a clue.
OMG...thank you for making me snort tea through my nose first thing in the morning, Kipod. Remind me to return the favor to you some day! LOL :~P
hehe that's funny....
well here's all I could find on Bros:
the search continues! My curiosity is peaked! same as for tuhPow!
perhaps we could contact VH1 for the next season of Bands Reunited??? haha NOT
T'Pau ... I love that song "Heart & Soul".
The lead singer, Carol Decker, still records and has a few solo albums out. And she tours regularly - including doing shows with the Here and Now tours in the UK.
T'Pau's lead singer Carol Decker and her husband own a restaurant in New York City, where he's a chef. I saw them in a TV interview not too long ago.
I love Heart and Soul!
god so much trivia floating around this place!
VH1 needs to do more "Where are they Now?" episodes!
Wha! What is it called?? Let me look it up.
Can't find out. AGH!
thanx for that bros update...was interesting to see it was pronounced like "cross" i always thought it was bros (like gross) cuz it was short for borthers.....
what happened to that guy that sang that song "yo little brother"
what was his name?
Am I the only person on earth who watched "Andy Warhol's 15 Minutes" on MTV in the mid 80's and fell for him pimping the good-looking NY boy-band "Curiosity Killed The Cat"?
It was the second CD I ever bought. First was an Oldie, "Beatles for Sale". Cd's had JUST come out - brand new technology!
I no longer have the Curiosity Killed The Cat CD, but I have the Vinyl LP, and STILL have that episode of Andy Warhol's 15 Minutes on home-taped VHS form way back when.
The show also features Jerry Hall, (being herself,) Tama Janowitz reading some short stories, (super funny,) Paulina Poriskova and Sally Kellerman promoting a movie they were in, and the lead actress from Spike Lee's "She's Gotta Have it" talking about herself and the film.
It was a cool show. I wish more shows would be like that. It was just fun and arty and cultural silliness.
